Welcome from the Headteacher

It is with pride and pleasure that I serve this community as the Headteacher of Bishop Gilpin CofE Primary School.

Thank you for your interest in our school. We offer a truly exceptional Primary experience for children from our thriving Nursery, right through to Year 6.

Our school aims to be at the heart of our Community and we foster a strong sense of belonging; for our children, their families, our staff and governors and our local clergy. Our children are happy and feel safe at school. They (and their families) make and sustain friendships that we know last them far beyond their BG experience.

At Bishop Gilpin, we build a firm foundation for a lifetime of learning by providing an offer which is excellent in all areas. We know that this starts with wellbeing. An excellent approach to wellbeing - ensuring that our community is safe, happy and well looked after - sets our children up to thrive. Our approach to wellbeing, supported by our children's therapist, is vast, well rounded and provides for all of our children. You can find out more about this in the wellbeing section of our website.

Our happy, safe children achieve consistent academic excellence. This is realised through providing a well designed curriculum delivered by highly skilled professionals who use research to ensure that their practice is as good as it can be. Our curriculum covers the National Curriculum fully and goes above and beyond it to ensure that our children are equipped with the skills required for a successful transition through their academic journey and beyond. On top of this, we ensure that our children experience a wide range of trips and experiences to provide them with the cultural capital required to develop their curiosity, awe and wonder about the world in which they live. You can find out more about our curriculum in the learning section of our website.

The BG Curriculum also benefits from the highest quality Music and Sport provision, which are both taught by our teams of specialist teachers. As well as our high quality curriculum offer, there are vast arrays of enrichment opportunities available through music and sport. From performing in the Royal Albert Hall to playing football at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, we seek out a huge array of activities in which our children can thrive.

Our links with our two local churches and our strong Religious Education curriculum support our children in their spiritual development as well. Our Christian Values of Forgiveness, Equality, Caring and Thankfulness are central to the way we try to live our daily lives and are values shared by our community. We are proud to be a Church of England school and are guided by the teachings of Jesus. However, Bishop Gilpin welcomes families of all faiths as well as non faith families.

As well as the emotional, academic, enrichment and spiritual programme we offer, we also think carefully about the nutrition of our children. This is why we have a committed team of chefs who work for the school to provide the highest quality, seasonal and most nutritious food choices for our children and staff at lunchtimes. Bucking the trend of the stereotypical “school dinner,” our chefs work with high quality butchers and grocers to ensure our offer is reflective of what our children deserve.

There is considerably more information available to you about our school on our website and I hope you find it easy to navigate. If you would like to find out more about Bishop Gilpin, please do contact us to arrange a tour to see for yourself why we are so proud of our school.

Choosing a school for your child is a huge decision - as a father of three, I know. I am pleased that you are considering Bishop Gilpin and becoming a part of our community.

Kind regards,

Matt Birch
